Four boys save friend from crocodile’s jaws

Chandu Gamar had gone for a swim in a rivulet with his friends when the crocodile grabbed his leg
Palanpur: Four young boys showed exemplary courage to save their friend from the deadly grip of a crocodile in a village of Sabarkantha district’s Poshina taluka on Tuesday.
Chandu Gamar (14) and his four friends had gone for swim in a rivulet, a tributary of Sabarmati River, to beat the heat. Suddenly, a crocodile grabbed his leg and sunk its teeth deep into the bones when he was waist-deep in water.
Hearing Chandu scream for help, his four friends, who were also in the water, rushed to his rescue. Without fearing the crocodile, they caught Chandu by his arms and tried to pull him on the bank. “The tug-of-war between the crocodile and the young boys lasted nearly 10 minutes before the reptile let go off his leg,” said Jainik Patel, emergency management executive of 108 ambulance services.
“Villagers also heard the four boys Jayanti, Kapil, Saka and Vanraj shouting for help and rushed to their rescue,” said Patel.

Chandu, who was seriously injured, was brought to Himmatnagar at about 6pm after primary treatment at Khedbrahma hospital .Later, he was shifted to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.
Himmatnagar hospital superintendent, Dr Ashwin Gadhvi, said the boy’s bones below the right knee were badly damaged.
