Addressing an election rally organised at Shadipur in Chicholi Assembly segment on Monday, Social Welfare Minister and Congress leader Priyank Kharge attacked BJP’s Umesh Jadhav for ‘betraying’ the Congress and the people of Chincholi who elected him to power.

“The Kundagol byelection was necessitated by the sad demise of our Minister and the Chincholi byelection was necessitated by the betrayal of our MLA. You elected him [Mr. Jadhav] for five years and he betrayed you by resigning from the Assembly membership and joining BJP for money. BJP leaders refused to waive farm loans claiming that they did not have enough money. But where did they get ₹50 crore to buy Umesh Jadhav? You should not forget the betrayal while voting,” he told the people.

Recalling how Mr. Jadhav, a doctor by profession, entered politics, Mr. Priyank said, “The former Chief Minister late N. Dharam Singh brought Mr. Jadhav to politics and Congress made him MLA. He became MLA twice because of the Congress. The development Chincholi has seen is because of the Congress government and not because of Mr. Jadhav,” he said.

He commended Congress candidate Subhash Rathod for fighting for the welfare and development of Lambani community, particularly when child-trafficking cases were being reported from the Lambani hamlets. He appealed to people to vote for him in the byelection.

“You have two candidates: Umesh Jadhav who betrayed you and breached your trust and Subhash Rathod who has been striving hard for your development and welfare. You should be very cautious while exercising your franchise on May 19. I request you to prudently select the one who has fought for you,” he said.

Demonetisation

Speaking about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said, “Mr. Modi had asked the people to get him hanged in the middle of a road if the problem caused by demonetisation was not solved within 50 days. The problem still persists and people are suffering. We are ready to get the road ready [to facilitate the middle-road hanging]. Will Mr. Modi come forward?” he said.
