COIMBATORE: A four-member
gang attacked two
youths with sickles while they were returning home from a court here on Tuesday morning. Tamizhvanan and Pradeep of Moore Market near Ganapathy, who suffered serious injuries in the attack, were admitted to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.
Pradeep is an accused in an
assault case.
Police arrested him a few weeks ago, and a court granted him a conditional bail recently. As part of the bail condition, Pradeep had to mark his presence in the court at 10am every day till Wednesday.
On Tuesday morning, Tamizhvanan accompanied Pradeep to the court. When they were returning home, the gang intercepted them near the office of the commissioner of police. The gang assaulted the duo with sickles and fled the scene.
People who witnessed the attempt to murder were shocked. A woman fainted and fell on the road after seeing the assault.
The Race Course police registered a case. The injured told the police that they had been attacked by Dhanabal, Hari, Surya and Sathish of Kamarajapuram near Ganapathy.
Deputy commissioner of police (law and order) L Balaji Saravanan formed three special teams to nab the accused.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that there was previous enmity between the gang and the two youths.
