Girls outperformed boys in the results of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations, the results of which were declared on Monday.
The pass percentage of girls was 93.68, which is 2.5% higher than boys whose pass percentage stood at 91.18. In all, 5.47 lakh students — 5.06 lakh regular and 40,526 private — appeared for the examination conducted between March 16 and April 13. As many as 4,374 schools reported 100% cent results while the pass percentage was zero in nine schools. Jagtial district registered the highest pass percentage of 99.73 followed by Siddipet (99.33) and Karimnagar (98.38).
Hyderabad registered lowest pass percentage of 83.09 and Mahabubnagar (83.33) in the results released by Education Department Secretary B. Janardhan Reddy on Monday morning.
The overall pass percentage improved by 8.65 as compared to the 83.78% of the previous year and a significant feature of the current year’s result is the performance of the residential welfare schools. The residential schools run by social welfare hostels registered pass percentage in excess of 96.5 while it was 95.07 in the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas. Government schools were at the bottom with 84.38% passes preceded by Ashram schools (86.49%) and Aided schools (88.64%).
Private schools constituted more than 50% (2,279) of the 4,374 schools which registered 100% results. Interestingly, the schools managed by Zilla Parishads stood second with 1,580 achieving the feat. Medium wise, English medium schools registered 94.32% results, Telugu (89.26%), Urdu (84.63%) and others (82.41%).
The Education secretary also announced the schedule for the advanced supplementary examinations along with the results. Accordingly, the advanced supplementary exams would be held between June 10 and 24 from 9.30 a.m. to 12.15 p.m. The last date for payment of fees for appearing in the advanced supplementary exams in the respective schools had been fixed as May 27 and it would be accepted with fine of ₹50 per subject till two days before the examinations.
Students could apply for recounting of marks paying ₹500 per subject and the fee would be ₹1,000 per subject in case they want reverification of the answer sheets. The Board of Secondary Education, however, asked students to pay the fee and appear for the supplementary examinations without waiting for the results of the recounting and reverification of their papers.
