Mufti goes off as cops ordered to be in uniforms to check crimes

Mysuru: With the strategy of deputing police personnel in mufti to check crimes not yielding the expected results, cops have been ordered to be on the field in uniforms.
City police’s move to make their presence felt by deputing cops in uniform across the city has helped them keep a check on offences like chain snatching. It has received applaud from the public, especially women folk.
Chandramma, 55, a homemaker, said, “For the first time, I have been noticing policemen in uniforms in Mysuru. This will definitely help people, especially women like us.”
Presence of city police in uniform in parts of Mysuru has turned the city into a fortress. They’re seen moving around parks, important intersections of roads, and in residential localities for hours in the morning. Police vehicles also have intensified patrolling in the city. This has deterred wrongdoers, especially chain-snatchers, from entering Mysuru as police have also stepped up verifying documents of vehicles. Even barricades are placed at vulnerable places to curb the movement of miscreants.
Policemen are also seen guarding parks. Their presence has brought a sense of security in the minds of people, said a resident.
DCP (Law and order) M Muthuraj told TOI, “After a series of chain snatching cases, we have taken up various measures to curb the crime. We have launched a drive ‘Operation Fast-track’ to keep a hawk’s eye on the movement of suspicious people, particularly the bike-borne miscreants who have been robbing women of their gold chains.”

It has been a week since the city witnessed seven cases of chain snatching on a single day. Since then cops attached to every police station have been directed to patrol vulnerable spots in their jurisdiction. Unlike earlier, when they were doing rounds in mufti, they have directed to be present on the streets in uniforms, said the DCP.
“It has benefitted us greatly as even petty offences like eve teasing, wheeling, drinking in public places, rowdy activities and movement of communal goondas, have been controlled. Even traffic policemen have been directed to be at the junctions,” Muthuraj added.
