Mohali police register 391 drugs cases in last two years

Mohali: Mohali police have registered around 391 cases of narcotic smuggling in the last two years. These cases have been reported under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) with Mohali police.
The figures indicate that despite long claims of the Punjab government and the Punjab police, smugglers continue their illegal business in the district.
However, the district had seen a drop in the contraband smuggling last year. Sources in the police department said around 154 cases had been registered at various police stations of Mohali district while around 237 cases were registered in 2017.
Smugglers used to procure puppy husk and opium from Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh and supplied it here.
The smugglers take stock of banned medicines from Uttar Pradesh and sold it in Mohali and its surrounding areas. The accused went to Saharanpur to take contraband and later supplied it here.
On the other hand, smugglers of heroin changed their base to New Delhi from the border areas.
As per the official statistics of Mohali police, the police had recovered around 2.97 quintal puppy husk, 1 kg sedative powder, 163 gram smack, 67 kg ganja and 2.261 kg heroin in 2018.
Similarly, the police had also recovered around 49,970 banned tablets and capsules and 1,751 banned injections this year. The cops had also recovered large quantity of liquor in 2018.
Mohali STF had also recovered more than 24,515 kg heroin from Mohali in 2018, which had a value of more than Rs 122 crore in the international market.
