Coimbatore: Chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami alleged that DMK president M K Stalin meeting Telangana chief minister Chandrasekar Rao was a sign of desperation for power.
Addressing the public at Chinniampalayam in Coimbatore where he campaigned for the party’s Sulur bypoll candidate V P Kandasamy on Tuesday, EPS alleged that Stalin wanted to grab power in Tamil Nadu through backdoor by entering into a discrete understanding with AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran. He was adopting a similar strategy to get a pie in the power at Centre by shaking hands with Telangana Rashtra Samithi chief Chandrasekar Rao. “Stalin was the one who proposed Rahul Gandhi for the prime minister’s post arbitrarily. But now he is holding talks with KCR. This shows Stalin’s double standards in desperation for power,’’ EPS charged. “But he will be disappointed in his bid to grab power in the state as well as Centre. The verdict has already been given by the people. We will come to know about the people’s verdict on May 23,’’ EPS said.
Hitting hard on Dhinakaran in equal measure, EPS said Dhinakaran and Stalin are no different. Both are eying for AIADMK votes and want to create a rift in the party. “Dhinakaran’s attempts to stifle our government were thwarted. Though he grew because of AIADMK now he has entered into a discrete alliance with DMK to defeat our candidates,’’ EPS alleged.
AIADMK is capable of delivering the promises and contribute to the growth of the region and the state, he said. None of the DMK MLAs has addressed woes of the people of their constituency, whereas AIADMK has been going the extra mile to even carry out new projects. “Work for the second phase of Avinashi–Athikadavu water scheme has begun and the project would be completed soon,’’ he said.
Taking a jibe at Stalin for promising to bring down monthly charge for cable TV, EPS said it was the DMK that raised the charges to facilitate the growth of SUN TV. “But we would reduce the price for cable TV,’’ he promised. He said Rs 65 crore loan obtained by small and micro weavers before March 2017 will be waived.
