RANCHI: Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) on Tuesday mimicked CBSE and surprised the examinees by announcing results of intermediate science and commerce without any prior notice. At 57%, the pass percentage in the science stream has increased in 2019 from 48.34% in 2018 while in commerce, the overall pass percentage stands at 70.44% this year, slightly higher compared to the pass percentage of 67.49% in 2018.

Just like every year, girls outperformed the boys in both the streams. While the pass percentage of girls in science was 61.68% against the 55.01% of the boys; in commerce the pass percentage of girls is at 79.07%, much ahead of the 63.08% of the boys who cleared examination.

Talking about the sudden decision to declare the results, JAC chairman Arvind Prasad Singh said: “Every year, the students are put under lot of stress with the expectation of results looming over their head since the mid of May. We decided to do away with the unnecessary anticipation and the stress caused by it this year and declared the results as and when we had it.”

In the science stream, a total of 53,186 students cleared the examination out of the 93,298 who appeared in the same. While a whopping 20,447 (38.44%) secured the first division in science, 30,874 (58.04%) students scored second division marks. In science, 24 students were passed provisionally. For the commerce stream,7115 of the 24,436 passing students scored the first division marks, followed by 15,428 students securing second division marks while 1,886 secured third division marks.

Speaking on the increased pass percentage and the number of students securing first division marks, Singh added: “JAC made consolidated efforts at helping the students writing the boards this year to score better. We provided model question papers every week with a suitable time interval for the students to get acquainted with the type of questions and help them practice solving them within the given time frame. This helped improved the performance quite a lot.”
