Man dies in hospital after Mother's Day family shooting
A 28-year-old man has died in hospital and his 35-year-old step-brother is being treated for a gunshot wound to the chest after a Mother's Day celebration turned bloody in NSW.
Police were called to Bingleburra in the NSW Hunter region about midday on Sunday after reports that two men had been shot in a domestic incident.
Officers were told the step-brothers, aged 28 and 35, had become involved in a fight before the older man was shot in the chest.
The younger man fled and was found nearby with a gunshot wound to his head. The wound is believed to have been self-inflicted.
Both men were treated at the scene and flown to John Hunter Hospital. Both were initially in a critical condition, but the older man has since had his condition downgraded to stable.
On Monday afternoon, the younger man died in hospital, police said in a statement on Tuesday.
Officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District continue to investigate the incident and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
