Kanpur: A four-year-old girl, resident of Sachendi Dadhiya village, was
killed on Tuesday morning after being hit by a DCM truck in Kisan Nagar in Bidhnoo area of the district. The victim has been identified as Mahima, daughter of Amarjit, a farmer.
The driver, who was allegedly drunk at the time of the accident, has been arrested. He tried to flee from the spot but was chased and later nabbed by the passersby, who thrashed him before tying him to a tree, the police said.
Station house officer (SHO), Anurag Singh, said that the accident took place on Tuesday morning near Kisan Nagar road in Bidhnoo. “Mahima, accompanied by her mother and a sibling, while trying to alight a tempo, came under the wheels of a DCM truck, coming from behind. The driver did not stop and kept on driving,” the SHO said.
Two men on motorcycle, who were passing through the area, chased the DCM driver and overtook him. The locals then tied the driver to a roadside tree and thrashed him. Police was informed and soon team rushed to the spot.
“After rescuing the DCM driver, we took him in our custody. The locals suspected said that he was drunk. The truth will come out after we get the report of his medical examination”, the SHO further said. Police, after registering a case at the police station, arrested the DCM driver, who works for a private company, he added.
