NEW DELHI: The Archery Association of India (AAI) may have finally zeroed in on an election date — June 9. This comes after acting president Sunil Sharma withdrew the previous notice which stated that the elections would take place on May 26.

Secretary Maha Singh has notified all state associations of the new date. “Pursuant to the judgment passed by the Supreme Court of India dated May 10, the elections of office bearers of the AAI, which were announced to be conducted on May 26 in New Delhi, would be rescheduled. Revised election notification will be issued soon,” Sharma stated in his letter.

Singh had a meeting with five out of the 10 members of the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators in Chandigarh after which the new date was finalised. Sharma, believed to be a member of the VK Malhotra camp, had forwarded the previous notice without consulting any of the committee members.

“The previous notice was illegal and I had objected to it back then as well. He had to withdraw as only the secretary has the power to issue election notice. The election will now be held on June 9 and in Chandigarh,” Singh told this daily.

AAI have been suffering from the two factions warring against each other for some time now. The disputes have increased since the apex court ordered for fresh elections.
