The officials said that the checks were conducted based on complaints regarding distribution of cash for votes. However, they returned empty-handed.

Flying squad officials conducted checks near a resort at Korampallam where DMK president M.K. Stalin was expected to stay on Tuesday.

The officials, including police and paramilitary personnel, conducted checks on incoming and outgoing vehicles, including Mr. Stalin’s campaign vehicle, escort vehicles and those of his aides. They also checked the belongings of visitors at the resort.

The checks, which started around 5.30 a.m. lasted until 10.30 a.m. shortly before Mr. Stalin arrived.

The officials said that the checks were conducted based on complaints regarding distribution of cash for votes. However, the officials returned empty-handed.

Mr. Stalin arrived in Thoothukudi for campaigning in support of party candidate M.C. Shanmugaiya for the Ottapidaram Assembly bypoll, which is scheduled to be held on May 19.
