In an attempt to encourage recycling of scrap metal in the city, the Kurnool Municipal Corporation (KMC) is installing scrap metal statues at all the major junctions here.

Already, 10 statues of the proposed 16, including those in the figures of a lion, a Tyrannosaurus rex, an owl and an eagle have been set up.

A 13-member team comprising alumni of the Andhra University have sculpted the statues using automobile scrap.

V. Veeraiah, one of the artists, said the team was experienced and diverse. “Each member has worked in large projects in various States,” he added.

Although the team had sculpted the statutes, the KMC was taking time in setting them up owing to delay caused by elections.

Municipal Commissioner P. Prasanti said the statues were being installed as part of a beautification drive.
