Mangaluru: The
Mangaluru City Corporation has revised the
water rationing schedule again, following the decrease in the water level at the
Thumbe Dam.
With zero inflow into the Nethravati river, the water level at Thumbe Dam in Bantwal taluk has reduced to 3.96 metres against the maximum storage level of 7 metres on Monday. On Saturday, the water level in the dam was 4.05 metres. As per the present rationing schedule, water supply will be stopped for 72 hours (three days) and thereafter pumping will continue for 96 hours (four days). However, the rationing schedule has been revised, and accordingly the city will not get water supply for 96 hours (four days) from 6am on May 20 to 6am on May 24. Later, water will be supplied for 96 hours between 6am on May 24 to 6am on May 28. Pumping will be stopped again for four days from 6am on May 28 to 6am on June 1.
‘Pray for rain’
Mangaluru City South MLA
D Vedavyas Kamath has appealed to people from all faiths to offer
special prayers, in their respective shrines, for rain on Wednesday.
“When the city faces an acute shortage of water, people should offer special prayers in temples, churches and mosques. Chiefs of all religious shrines, management committees, trustees and priests should make arrangements to hold special prayers in shrines. People praying together will solve the crisis,” Kamath said.
Special prayers, pujas and offerings for rain were made at Kadri Sri Manjunatha temple in the city on Tuesday. The temple management and a large number of devotees took part in the prayers and offerings.
