Two men were arrested for allegedly trying to rob an Army officer at an unguarded ATM in Kashmere Gate, the police said on Monday.

The incident happened on Monday at 11.35 a.m. when a PCR van deployed outside the Office of Election Commissioner, Delhi Kashmiri Gate, heard a man chasing two youths and shouting chor-chor (thief).

The PCR staff — Sub-Inspector Krishan Lal and driver Assistant Sub-Inspector Kapil — started chasing the two youths.

After a brief chase, the youths were nabbed by PCR staff. Basant Singh said he was withdrawing money from an ATM when the two accused entered. “They tricked me into swapping their card. When I got suspicious, they ran away. I also started running behind them and shouted for help,” he said.

The police said they recovered seven ATM cards from Alauddin and Adil.
