Police are hunting for a man who stabbed a stranger repeatedly in the face and chest in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley.

The 38-year-old man was taken to hospital with major cuts after being attacked while standing on the intersection of Ann Street and Commercial Road on Sunday about 10.50pm.

Police are seeking information about his attacker, who they say is in his mid-20s, with a tanned complexion, solid build and short black hair.
