Gurugram Lok Sabha constituency recorded an estimated 68.45% voter turnout on Sunday — almost three percentage points less than in the 2014 General Election.
The final figures could, however, vary. As per the Election Commission website, Haryana recorded 71.58% voter turnout in the previous Lok Sabha poll.
Of the nine Assembly constituencies falling under Gurugram Lok Sabha, Pataudi recorded the highest voting percentage of 72% while Punhana, dominated by the Muslim electorate, recorded the lowest 63.37% voter turnout.
The two Assembly constituencies of Nuh and Ferozepur Jhirka, in the Muslim-dominated Nuh district, recorded 70.24% and 70% turn out respectively, while Rewari recorded 70.56 % turnout. Similarly, 64% and 66% of voters exercised their franchise in predominantly urban Assembly constituencies of Badshahpur and Gurugram respectively.
Two FIRs
The polling largely remained peaceful with no major incident of violence, though two First Information Reports were registered against individuals in Nuh for bogus voting.
The polling started on a slow note at 7 a.m. but gathered pace as the day progressed. Long queues of men and women could be seen outside most of the polling stations around noon. The Gurugram and Badshahpur Assembly constituencies, with huge support for the BJP, hold the key to the election. The handsome turnout in the two constituencies is a good sign for the BJP.
