Train runs over septuagenarian

Ludhiana: A train ran over an elderly man while he was crossing the tracks near Lakkar Bridge on Saturday evening.
Government Railway Police (GRP) assistant sub-inspector Sukhminder Singh said, “The documents found on the body helped identify it as that of Hansraj Verma, a resident of Civil Lines, Ludhiana. He was in his 70s. Verma did not see the train coming at the unmanned railway crossing. The body was handed over to his family after the post-mortem.”

Police have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC.
Balbir Singh, in-charge of Government Railway Police post, said, “We have asked railway authorities that a wall be constructed along the tracks near Lakkar Bridge to check such accidents. Besides, we have also urged them that accident-prone areas be fenced.”
