Muthoottu firm robbery: Police get custody of accused

Coimbatore: The city police on Monday got three-day custody of an accused, A Suresh, 32, of Kempatty Colony, in connection with the robbery of 597.5 sovereigns (4,790g) of gold ornaments and Rs 1 lakh from Muthoottu Mini Financiers Private Limited at Ramathapuram here.

On April 30, Suresh was arrested along with his girlfriend J Renuga Devi, 26, of Chettipalayam Road at Podanur, who worked at the private finance firm. She assisted him to rob the firm of the gold ornaments and the cash. Suresh was lodged at the Coimbatore Central Prison and Renuga Devi at the special prison for women, located on the premises of the Coimbatore Central Prison .
Meanwhile, the Ramanathapuram police had filed a petition before the judicial magistrate court -VI, seeking custody of Suresh for three days. The court on Monday evening granted police custody of the accused.
