A man is fighting for his life after falling from the roof of a vehicle in a suspected family violence incident in a Springvale South driveway on Sunday night.

The 28-year-old man suffered head injuries on Heatherton Road about 9.25pm and was taken to The Alfred hospital in a critical condition.

A Springvale South woman, 26, was arrested at the scene. She is assisting police with their inquiries.

They are believed to be known to each other.

The Country Fire Authority were at Heatherton Road for a clean-up on Monday morning, and attended for just three minutes.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives and local detectives are working to establish the circumstances around the incident.

The investigation remains ongoing.
