‘EC has failed to curb cash flow in Aravakurichi’

Tamil Nadu Toddy Movement coordinator C. Nallasamy on Sunday alleged that the Election Commission had failed to curb the flow of unaccounted cash in the Aravakurichi constituency.

Speaking to reporters here, he said the AIADMK and the DMK had already begun bribing voters on a large scale. Both parties were following ‘innovative’ methods to lure voters and were competing with each another in the systematic bribing of voters.

But no action was taken to prevent money flow, he said, accusing the Election Commission of having failed to identify the sources of unaccounted money.

Mr. Nallasamy said farming operations had come to a standstill ever since the announcement of a byelection to the Aravakurichi constituency was made, as there was an acute shortage of farm workers. Since the workers were getting more money from political parties for election-related activities, they were reluctant to take up farm work, he said.

Mr. Nallasamy called upon the Election Commission to “wake up” to the prevailing situation. The officials should step up vigil against those bribing voters in the Aravakurichi constituency, he said.
