The 2020 BMW M3 has been spied while making a quick pit stop near the Nürburgring.
While the model is dressed in heavy camouflage, spy photographers managed to get an up close look at the highly anticipated sports sedan. This includes the interior which we haven’t seen much of in the past.
As expected, the cabin is heavily influenced by the 3-Series and it appears to feature a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with M-specific displays. The high-performance theme is visible elsewhere as the prototype has been equipped with Aluminum Tetragon trim.
We can also see a three-spoke M steering wheel and what appears to be an 8.8-inch infotainment system. It’s a bit odd the high-performance model would retain the smaller display from the 3-Series, but a larger 10.25-inch display should be optional.
There doesn’t appear to be any other changes, but the center console and gear selector are covered by camouflage. It’s possible these components could receive some M-specific updates, but nothing is official as of yet.

As for the rest of the car, there isn’t much we haven’t seen already. However, the prototype has a unique front bumper and five-spoke alloy wheels that are backed up by a high-performance braking system with gold calipers. Other notable performance features include a rear spoiler and a four-tailpipe exhaust system.
BMW hasn’t said much about the M3, but previous reports have suggested the car will be powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that has outputs of around 454 hp (338 kW / 460 PS) and 474 hp (353 kW / 480 PS). The lower output model will reportedly be paired to a six-speed manual transmission that sends power to the rear wheels. The high-performance variant, on the other hand, is slated to have an eight-speed automatic transmission and a defeatable all-wheel drive system.
That remains unconfirmed, but the new twin-turbo 3.0-liter engine produces 473 hp (352 kW / 479 PS) and 442 lb-ft (598 Nm) of torque in the 2020 X3 M and X4 M. The models also offer a Competition variant which boasts 503 hp (375 kW / 510 PS) and 442 lb-ft (598 Nm) of torque.
