The Ministry has informed its citizens about the significance of the red vertical line on the packaging of medicine. Tablet packs with a red stripe indicate that these cannot be purchased without a doctor’s prescription. The pharmacy is allowed to sell these medicines only when a medical prescription is provided for the same.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare tweeted, “#Medicines, specially #antibiotics that have a red vertical line on the packaging, should never be consumed without consulting a qualified #doctor. Be aware, Be safe.”

Do not forget to talk about the medicines you consume to your friends and relatives. It is important to read the directions on the label, ask and check about things you do not understand before consuming any medicine. Also, remind your pharmacist if you are allergic to any medicines and check for side effects before you buy your medicines.
