HYDERABAD: An 11-year-old girl was allegedly sexually abused by her neighbour at her home in Medipally on Sunday morning, when her parents were not at home. There are also allegations that the police delayed acting on the complaint by the victim’s family.
The Medipally police said that the victim’s mother left for work on Sunday at 6am and the 11-year-old girl was at home along with her 9-year-old brother. Meanwhile, the 22-year-old accused, who resides in the neighbourhood, came to the victim’s residence in absence of her parents. The accused, who is a mechanic by profession, sent the victim’s brother out of the house to get tea for him. As the victim’s brother left the house, the accused sexually abused the victim. The accused left the house by the time the victim’s brother returned.
When the victim’s mother came to know about the incident, she approached the Medipally police at around 11.30am to lodge a complaint. “The police did not act on the complaint filed by the victim’s mother till evening, following which members of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) intervened. The minor victim was not taken to the hospital for medical examination until evening. In any sexual abuse case, the victim should immediately be sent for medical examination, however the police failed to do so in this case,” said Balala Hakula Sangam member

The police registered an FIR in the evening. It is learnt that the police were apparently busy with arrangements for IPL final.
