Southern Railway has issued a circular to operations teams of six of its divisions, including Chennai and Madurai, to shift Station Masters if any communication gap is found between them.
The Railway Department has identified that a communication gap between station masters could have been the reason for the Madurai-Virudhunagar section incident where two trains were on the same track on Thursday. In the wake of that incident, two SMs and a Controller were suspended.
The circular issued by the Chief Operations Manager of Southern Railway headquarters wants senior officials to inspect and identify station masters having communication issues between them.
A senior official said that as officials including station masters are appointed from various States, there could be a communication problem, though English is commonly used.
The note states that if any problem is found “it should be tackled by suitable relocation of staff or by providing counselling to operational staff to use commonly understood language.”
