THOOTHUKUDI
PMK youth wing president Anbumani Ramadoss on Monday condemned the grant of terms of reference to Vedanta group by the Centre for carrying out an Environmental Impact Assessment for hydrocarbon extraction projects in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
Addressing reporters at Thoothukudi airport, he said that the State government should not extend permission to the project to drill 274 hydrocarbon extraction wells. “If necessary, the PMK will stage a protest. We want to protect the soil... We need to preserve it for our posterity. The land should be used only for agriculture,” he said.
He said DMK president M.K. Stalin was spending more time in criticising the NDA than focusing on people’s issues. The DMK, which had 88 MLAs, had not worked for the development of the people, he added.
The DMK was afraid of losing the election. “Earlier, Mr. Stalin proposed Rahul Gandhi as a Prime Ministerial candidate. Now, he is sowing the seeds for a third front,” he said, adding the DMK-Congress alliance was in a confused state. “The Communist parties are part of the Congress alliance in Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, Mr. Gandhi is contesting from Wayanad where his primary opponent would be the CPI,” he said.
Further, he said, Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam had promised allocation of houses to CPI leader Nallakannu and for the descendants of Kakkan after May 23.
Later in the evening, he participated in a public meeting at Pudukottai along with alliance party leaders.
