Ludhiana: Two directors of a Mumbai-based travel company have been booked for duping a Ludhiana education organization of Rs 16.92 lakh on the pretext of sending its students to France on an exchange programme, said police on Monday.
The firm had taken Rs 39.86 lakh from the education organisation in 2017. As it failed to arrange the trip, it returned Rs 22.94 lakh, but “refused” to pay the remaining amount.
Rajesh Rudra, director of Sant Kirpal Vidayak Mission that runs five schools in Ludhiana, had lodged a complaint with police on July 28, 2018. After an inquiry, the Jodhewal police on Sunday registered a case against Prachie Patil and Benjamin, directors of Milna India, under Section 420 (cheating) of the IPC.
Rajesh Rudra said, “Prachie Patil contacted me in 2017 and offered to organize an exchange programme to France for our school students. She demanded Rs 1.07 lakh per student. We paid Rs 39.86 lakh to the firm through cheques for 37 students in June and July 2017. But after getting the money, the firm kept dilly-dallying the trip. When we demanded the money back, the firm returned Rs 22.94 lakh and refused to pay the rest of the amount.”
Rajesh Rudra then approached the police.
Assistant sub-inspector Krishan Kumar said, “The case was registered after ACP (North) conducted a thorough investigation.”
