According to the police, Srinivasan, who was the EO of the Sri Balasubramaniyar temple in Andarkuppam village, was recently given additional charge of Sri Pushpadeswarar temple in his native Nayiru village near Ponneri.
On Sunday evening, Srinivasan and Thanga Sezhiyan had gone to Pushpadeswarar temple to oversee the activities there as it was a busy day at the shrine with hundreds of devotees visiting the place.
“After overseeing the activities there, they were returning on a motorbike on the Minjur–Nemelicherry Outer Ring Road when two unidentified men stopped their vehicle and attacked them with knives and other sharp objects. When Sezhiyan, who was riding pillion, tried to escape, he was chased down and attacked by three other miscreants,” a police officer said.
Other motorists who witnessed the attack immediately rushed the two injured persons to a private hospital in Porur where they are reportedly under treatment. Ponneri police have registered a case in this connection and investigations are on. Police suspect previous enmity to be the motive behind the attack.
