People across the State got a respite from the heatwave conditions on Sunday with the maximum temperatures coming down by about two to three degrees Centigrade. However, sweltering weather continued to prevail as many places in the State witnessed temperatures of more than 40° Celsius during peak hours.
Heavy to moderate rainfall was received in mandals of Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and other districts and a similar condition is predicted by the India Meteorological Department for the next three to four days.
Ichhapuram in Srikakulam district received the highest rainfall (2.6 cm) as of Thursday evening. Parawada, Araku Valley and other areas in Visakhapatnam, Kaviti and Kanchi in Srikakulam, Salur and Balajipeta in Vizianagaram also received heavy rainfall.
According the Real Time Governance Society, Tirupati in Chittoor district recorded a maximum temperature of 45.59° Celsius. In Pedaaraveedu of Prakasam district, the maximum temperature was 45.2°Celsius followed by Rapur (45.1°C) of Nellore district, Mahanandi (44.8°C) of Kurnool, Laxminarasampet (43.9°C) of Srikakulam, Rangampeta (43.6°C) of East Godavari and Chitvel (43.6°C) of Kadapa and Nidadavole (43.2°C) of West Godavari. The maximum temperature in other districts was below the 43°C mark.
Vijayawada recorded 40.2° Celsius, while Visakhapatnam recorded 33.6° Celsius, according to the IMD.
Heatwave warning
According to the IMD, the temperatures are likely to come down in the coming five days due to cloudy skies and thunder showers. Isolated areas in districts of Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema are likely to witness light to moderate rain or thunder showers in the coming four days.
The IMD warned that heatwave conditions will prevail in isolated areas in coastal Andhra on Monday and Tuesday.
