Two persons were killed and 10 injured when a mini bus carrying workers of a textile firm overturned at Sulthanpet here on Saturday.
Manimegalai aka mala (28) from Karadivavi, near Palladam, and R. Kalaivani (26) from Jakkarpalayam were killed in the accident which took place around 7.30 p.m. on Saturday, said the police.
According to the police, the accident occurred near the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited office at Sulthanpet when the staff bus carrying more than 10 workers was plying towards Palladam. The police said that the driver of the bus applied sudden brake to avoid collision with a two-wheeler, which unexpectedly crossed the road. The bus overturned in the impact of the braking.
While Manimegalai died on the spot owing to serious head injuries, 11 others who were injured, including Kalaivani, were shifted two hospitals. However, Kalaivani died without responding to treatment on Sunday morning.
Selvi (46), Sudha (20), Thangamani (20), Eswari (45), Anitha (25), Chithra (19), Mahalakshmi (25), Jaychithra (28), Sathya Priya (38), and another Sudha (20) are the workers injured in the accident.
Bodies of the two deceased were shifted to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. The Sulthanpet police have registered a case in connection with the accident.
