In order to create awareness about accidental deaths on local trains and subsequent trauma, the one-rupee clinic, an emergency medical centre at 12 railway stations is making an effort.
The clinic has initiated a pledge campaign online and also offline at various centres. The emergency medical centres at railway stations are spreading awareness about accidental deaths so as to reduce the number of deaths on local trains.
According to the changemakers, on an average, at least four cases of railway accidents are attended to by the emergency medical units. Out of the 12 medical centres operated across the city’s railway stations, maximum accidents are reported at the Thane and Kurla stations.
Dr Rahul Ghule, founder of the clinic, said, “Maximum accidents and deaths occur at Thane, Kurla, and Dadar railway stations. On an average, two to four cases are treated daily. In a month, more than 140 cases are treated at stations like Thane, Kurla, Dadar, where the number of railway accidents is really high.”
He further said, “Even after announcements and awareness drives, people do not understand the harm they invite by not being responsible. Most cases we get are of commuters, who fell from a crowded train or who travel on the footboard.
