District Election Officer and Collector G. Veerapandian and Superintendent of Police G.V.G. Ashok Kumar on Saturday night inspected security at strongrooms where electronic voting machines (EVMs) from 14 Assembly and two Lok Sabha constituencies are stored.
Three-layer protection
At the strongrooms at the Sri Krishnadevaraya University and the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) here, a three-layer security is being provided, with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel at the core, A.P. Special Police personnel in the second layer and district police personnel in the third.
The officials went through CCTV footage and discussed strategies to be adopted at counting centres with Deputy Superintendents of Police.
Earlier, Mr. Veerapandian and Joint Collector S. Dilli Rao organised a training programme on counting of votes for 1,400 officials of the district at the JNTU auditorium. The administration had been holding such programmes since Thursday.
Depending on the needs of polling stations, between 10 to 15 tables would be arranged for counting. Officials involved in the process had to reach the counting centres by 4 a.m. on May 23. Practical training in counting of votes would be imparted to the officials on May 17 and 18 in Anantapur, Mr. Veerapandian said.
