Ludhiana: The police on Sunday booked a domestic help after he allegedly escaped with cash and jewellery from his employer’s house in Gurdev Nagar. Before committing the theft, Surendra Bahadur spiked the food of another help and locked the driver’s son in a room.
Nand Kishore, a hosiery unit owner, said in his police complaint, “On Saturday, I, along with my family, had gone to visit a relative on Chandigarh Road. Surendra, another domestic help Sham and our driver’s son Sumant were home. When we returned a few hours later, we found our house ransacked. While Surendra was missing, Sham was lying unconscious and Sumant was locked in a room.”
The family later found Rs 2 lakh and jewellery missing.
“We had hired Surendra two days ago on the recommendation of our domestic help Mahesh Bahadur. Mahesh had been working at our house from the past two-and-a-half years. When he went home in Nepal, he sent Surendra in his place,” he added.
Sub-inspector Manjit Singh said, “Sumant told that he was sleeping in a room on the first floor and when he woke up, he found the door locked from outside. Sham is admitted to a hospital. He is still unconscious.”
Police suspect Surendra served Sham sedative-laced food. “It seems Surendra took help of his aides to commit the theft. Sham’s statement will make the picture clear.”
Cops said the employer had not got any of his employees verified.
A case has been registered under sections 381 (theft by clerk or servant of property in possession of master), 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC against Surendra, Mahesh and their accomplices.
