Vijayawada: Prakasam barrage brims with water

Prakasam barrage
VIJAYAWADA: The Prakasam barrage which had almost gone bone dry, is now brimming with water which was flown in from the Nagarjuna Sagar project. It was a sigh of relief for the Vijayawada municipal corporation (VMC) which was concerned about the poor water levels of the barrage.

The water levels at the barrage had dropped down 4 feet in the first week of May, and authorities of Vijayawada and Guntur municipal corporations had been looking for alternative measures to supply drinking water in summer.
Poor rainfall in November, formation of sand dunes, water released through irrigation canals, have had a severe impact on the water levels this year.
