Coimbatore: The consumer redressal forum has ordered a private company to pay a customer Rs 1 lakh as compensation to a customer for the mental agony caused to him by losing a parcel he had sent to Singapore five years ago.
In 2014, Data Field India Private Limited in Coimbatore imported raw materials for manufacturing charger cables from a Singapore-based company. For the same, they had to submit documents including insurance letter, certificate of origin among others to the Singapore-based company through First Flight Couriers for clearing the imported goods. “Usually, the courier should have been delivered within a day or two. However, the customer realized that the courier was not delivered to Singapore at all,” said the judgement copy.
In September, the company lodged a complaint with the courier company and sent mails to all its senior officials but received no response. The courier company instructed the customer to file a police complaint. The customer filed a complaint against the courier company with the consumer redressal forum in 2015.
On May 8, the courier company chairman, O P Saboo, and branch manager, R G Ravi, were ordered to pay Rs 1 lakh as compensation for the mental agony caused to the customer. The compensation would be paid with an interest rate of 9% since complaint was registered.
