Mumbai Indians defeat Chennai Super Kings by 1 run to clinch fourth IPL title

Hyderabad, A blistering knock by Shane Watson (80 runs off 59 balls) went in vain as Mumbai Indians produced a clinical performance to clinch the title for the fourth time by defeating Chennai Super Kings by one run in the final of cash-rich tournament here at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday.

After Mumbai won the toss and opted to bat, Chennai dished out a disciplined bowling and fielding effort to first restrict Mumbai to 149 for eight.

Deepak Chahar (3/26), Shardul Thakur (2/37) and Imran Tahir (2/23) shared seven wickets between them to restrict Mumbai from posting a huge total after put into field by Mumbai.

Chasing the modest total, Chennai didn’t get off to a good start as the opening pair added 33 runs for the first wicket. Faf du Plessis was the first man to walk into the pavilion on a score of 26 runs off 13 balls. His innings included 3 fours and 1 six.

Suresh Raina with Shane Watson tried to stay on the crease but he too failed to support Watson from the other end and departed for eight runs in ninth over. He was lbw by Chahar.
