Nine killed in three accidents in Karnataka

Nine persons died in accidents in Hassan, Mandya, and Haveri districts in the past 24 hours.

Four persons, including two children, were killed and two were seriously injured when an autorickshaw by which they were travelling was hit by a KSRTC bus near Hagare in Belur taluk on Saturday evening.

Among the dead include a three-month-old baby, daughter of Chandrakala, 31, who also died in the incident. Others who died were identified as Lakshmamma, 51, and Dayakar, 6. They were all residents of Ranganakoplu, near Hagare, said the police.

The negligence of the bus driver is said to be the reason for the accident. The Halebid police have registered a case.

Three die

Three persons, who were on a motorcycle, were killed in a head-on collision with a KSRTC bus on Hemagiri-Bandihole Main road in K.R. Pet taluk on Sunday.

The dead were identified as Jayamma, 55, her son Krishna, 40, and his wife Gowri, 30.

They were residents of Ambedkar Nagar in K.R. Pet town and were heading to Chandagonalamma Temple when the bus hit their motorcycle near Sadagonahalli, the K.R. Pet Rural police said. All the three were not wearing helmets and they died on the spot, the police added.

The driver and conductor of the bus fled from the spot after the accident.

Falls into gorge

Two persons were killed and eight injured when the car by which they were travelling fell off the road into a gorge at Akkialur village in Hanagal taluk of Haveri district on Sunday.

The names of the dead were given as Neelakantappa Yaligar (55) and his mother-in-law Neelavva Yaligar (85), residents of Yalavatti village. The passengers were on their way from Yalavatti to Somapur to attend a function.

The accident occurred near the APMC Yard when the vehicle fell into the 25-ft-deep gorge after the driver lost control of it. The injured, including two children, are undergoing treatment at the district hospital. A case has been lodged at the Hanagal police station.
