PUNE: Incomplete registration number of a scooter used in a lift robbery near Bhor helped the Pune Rural police crack the case and arrest two robbers from Satara district on Monday.
The duo, identified as Karan Jadhav (20) and Swapnil Jagtap (29) Satara, had offered lift to Rohit Mahangare of Satara as well around 10.30pm on Saturday.
“Mahangare works in Pune. He was waiting for a transport at Sangamner Malwadi Phata in Bhor to reach Brahmanghar village to attend a fair. This is when two youths on a scooter stopped near him and asked him as to where was he headed,” assistant inspector Dattatreya Darade, who arrested the suspects, told TOI.
When Mahangare told them that he wanted to go to Brahmanghar, the suspects offered to drop him there and asked him to hop on their scooter. “After reaching near Bhatghar dam, they drove the scooter at some distance off main road. They then halted at a secluded spot and one of them took out a sharp weapon from the boot of the scooter. He threatened the Mahangare of dire consequences,” the officer said..
The suspects then snatched Mahangare’s cellphone worth Rs 10,000. “They also took out Rs 2,000 from his wallet before fleeing the spot, leaving Mahangare behind. The victim somehow walked up to the main road and reached the police station with the help of the locals,” Darade said.

He said the police did not have any clue about the suspects as Mahangare only gave the incomplete registration number of the scooter used by the duo. “With that number, we traced the suspects and arrested them on Monday,” Darade said.
The probe has revealed that the duo had also come to Bhor from Satara for a fair. “While returning home, they decided to rob someone. We are checking if they have any previous records,” the officer said.
