A youth drowned in the Cauvery and another is feared to have drowned after they were washed away at Balamuri waterfalls, near Srirangapatna in the district on Sunday.
The body of B. Shivu, 19, was shifted to K.R. Hospital in Mysuru and an operation to search for S. Ajit, 19, has been launched, said the KRS police.
According to the police, six youths from Gandhi Nagar and nearby areas, in Mysuru, visited Balamuri to spend the weekend.
The police said that two of them ventured into the water although they reportedly did not know how to swim and were washed away.
Some locals and tourists rescued Shivu and took him to a hospital in Mysuru, where he was declared brought dead.
The Police Department has banned swimming/playing in the Cauvery at the place and has installed caution boards at the entrance.
