A four-member gang took away 7.2 sovereigns jewellery from a farmhouse at Thondamuthur after keeping the home-maker, a 53-year-old woman, at knife-point on Saturday.

The police said that the robbers, who had covered their faces with masks, struck at the house of K. Vellingiri (55) which is situated inside a farm at Thondamuthur. The incident happened around 7 p.m. when Mr. Vellingiri's wife Sasimala was alone at the house. The police said that Mr. Vellingiri had gone out around 5 p.m. and had not returned.

Expecting husband, Ms. Sasimala opened the door when the gang members knocked on the door. Though the woman tried to run inside, one of the intruders took hold of her and kept her at knife-point. The others robbed her of the jewellery. The police said that the woman was not injured in the incident. Senior police officers and scientific team inspected the house and collected evidence. The Kottur police have registered a case and started investigation.
