KOLKATA: Four persons on two bikes chased two youths, who were travelling in a car with their families, for more than 20 minutes — from Lake Gardens to Park Street — and assaulted the duo when they came out after having dinner at a restaurant late on Saturday night. The attack happened since the duo had overtaken the four on their way to the restaurant. No one has been arrested so far.
Akash Sarkar (21), a resident of Jadavpur, in his complaint with Park Street police, alleged, “In the Lake Gardens area, we were first obstructed by the four who were riding two bikes.”
“As the driver of the car managed to accelerate and overtake the bikes, the motorcyclists started chasing them. They even tried to drag the driver out, but he somehow managed to escape and reach their destination,” said police.
But the bikers were in no mood to give up and followed the car till the restaurant in Park Street . When the duo were having dinner at the restaurant with their relatives, the four called some of their friends to the spot. “As soon as Sarkar and his relative, Akash Bamba, stepped out of the restaurant with their families around 12.45am, the gang members blocked their way. Sarkar and Bamba were beaten up and prevented from getting inside the car,” said a source.
Sarkar in his complaint alleged that he, along with Bamba, fell on the ground as the goons rained blows on them. They also lost their mobile phones and attempts were also allegedly made to snatch their gold chains. Later, when the police reached the spot, the bikers managed to flee.

Police said that they have lodged a complaint under IPC sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongfully restraining) and 379 (theft).
Police added that they were trying to identify the bikers through CCTV footage in Park Street and adjoining areas.
