Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter is recovering from surgery after he fell and broke he hip in his Georgia home earlier on Monday as he was preparing to go on a turkey hunt.

Representatives said 94-year-old Carter is recovering from the operation that doctors said went well, and was accompanied by former first lady, Rosaylnn.

According to a statement from the Carter Center, the 39th U.S. president was concerned that Turkey season ends this week and he has quote "not reached his limit." Carter, who has lived longer after leaving the White House than any former president in U.S. history, hopes his home state will allow him to roll his unused limit into next year.
