Man held with ganja and nitrazepam tablets

Attingal: The district rural police arrested a 54-year-old man with nitrazepam tablets and ganja packets here on Sunday. The police have identified the accused as Renjith alias Rathi, a native of Janardhanapuram in Varkala.
Renjith’s arrest was recorded at Varkala police station. According to Varkala station house officer inspector G Gopakumar, he was arrested from the premises of Sree Narayana College in Varkala. Over 60 nitrazepam tablets and 50 packets of ganja were seized from him.
“The drugs are smuggled into the city to be sold in small quantities. It is popular among youths, mainly college and school students and also tourists. Renjith charges Rs 500 for each nitrazepam tablet named ‘Nitrose 10’. He charges Rs 500 for one ganja packet weighing around 10 grams,” said Gopakumar.
The officer said that the accused had admitted that he used to purchase ganja from Marthandam in Tamil Nadu. He purchased tablets from medical representatives from Tamil Nadu at Rs 50 and sold it for Rs 500 among his clients in Varkala and nearby areas.

“Two days ago, superintendent (rural) B Ashokan had received a tip off about drug peddling from the parent of one of Renjith’s clients. The information was passed on to the Varkala police. Since then major colleges and schools were under police surveillance. The seizure was made on Sunday at 11am when Renjith reached SN College premises to supply drugs to his clients,” said Gopakumar.
The officer said that Renjith was a history-sheeter and was involved in a case on supplying ganja worth 3kg under Varkala excise station limits in 2012. He has cases against him at Varkala police station as well.
