Greater Noida: Grandmother’s revolver goes off, bullet hits boy

GREATER NOIDA: A seven-year-old boy was hit by a bullet allegedly after a revolver fell off his grandmother’s hand during a family function in Greater’s Noida’s Badalpur and accidentally went off. The Class II student, Yash Sharma, was rushed to a private hospital in Vaishali, where doctors are trying to extract the bullet lodged in his stomach.
Police said the revolver that went off is lodged in the 55-year-old woman’s name. The cops are waiting for the family to file a complaint.
A relative said Yash’s father Devrath Sharma, who runs a pharmacy in Raj Nagar in Ghaziabad, had gone to Badalpur on Friday evening to attend a naming ceremony in his uncle’s house. “Around 6pm, Yash was playing with other children in the hall. Suddenly, we heard a gunshot, and then found Yash lying on the floor, oozing blood. We rushed him to the nearest hospital. He was later referred to Max Hospital in Vaishali,” the relative said.
It was the hospital officials who informed police, as the boy had been hit by a bullet.
A spokesperson for Max Hospital said the bullet was still lodged in the boy’s stomach. “The boy is in the ICU. We will perform a surgery and take out the bullet,” the spokesperson said.

Vinay Kumar, the SHO of Badalpur police station, said Yash’s grandmother Kamlesh had been keeping the gun for the past few years. “She was standing with other woman when the revolver fell off her hand and it went off. We are investigating all angles,” said Kumar.
The officer said they were in the process of lodging an FIR. “We have asked the family members of the boy to file a complaint. If they don’t, we will take suo moto cognisance of the case and file an FIR ourselves,” Kumar added.
