The Munambam police on Friday arrested a father-son duo on the charge of murdering a relative following a drunken brawl at their home near Raktheshwari Temple at Cherai.
The arrested are Mohanan, 72, and his son Jinesh, 43, of Cherai. They stand accused of murdering Binu, 48. He succumbed to an alleged head injury sustained during the assault.
“All three had drinks from a bar and reached the house of the accused where a heated argument erupted. This ended up with the victim getting assaulted leading to his death on Thursday night,” said A. Shefek, Sub Inspector, Munambam.
The victim was a heart patient who had a bypass surgery. The police initially registered a case for unnatural death invoking Section 174 of the CrPC. Later, it was changed to Section 302 (murder) if the CrPC after it emerged that he had died owing to the impact of a blow to his head after he hit the floor on being assaulted by the accused.
The accused were produced in court and remanded on Saturday.
