MANGALURU: After successfully creating mosaic of a tiger using 1,200 Rubik’s Cubes, 293 cubers from
Karnataka are now waiting for the final approval from the
Guinness World Records authorities. ‘Prithvi Mosaics’, a team of cubers led by Mangalurean Prithveesh K, is all set to enter the Guinness World Record.
The team was given a target of 251 cubers to create a mosaic using maximum Rubik’s Cubes. The team is all set to bag ‘Most Contribution to a Rubik's Cube Mosaic’, which will be new title in Guinness World Records. The attempt for world record was successfully made by the team at Bannerghatta in Bengaluru on May 5. Prithveesh told TOI that all records related to the Guinness World Record attempt have been sent to Guinness authorities for official review.
“We were given a target of creating mosaic image using Rubik’s Cubes with not less than 251 participants. Our team with 293 cubers from Karnataka successfully contributed to the Rubik’s Cube mosaic using 1,200 Rubik’s Cubes. The image created was of a 'Tiger', which pleaded the conservation of our national animal,” said Prithveesh, who is a speedcuber and mosaic artist.
In fact, 300 participants had registered to take part in the record attempt. However, seven were eliminated since they were not able to solve the Rubik’s Cube in the preliminary round. However, 293 were successful in solving the cube and also in creating the mosaic. The whole process of creating the mosaic by the participants has been recorded. All evidences including visuals have been sent to the Guinness World Records authorities. Approval from the authorities is expected within a week, he said adding that the team has succeeded in creating the mosaic as per the criteria given by the Guinness authorities.
A team led by Prithveesh, who was an electronic engineering student of SDM Institute of Technology (SDMIT) in Ujire, Dakshina Kannada, had entered the Guinness World Record in 2016 by creating a vertical wall like structure using 4,000 Rubik’s Cubes. The team, 'SDMIT Cubers', comprising 20 members had created a vertical Rubik's cube mosaic wall, which on one side portrayed the picture of Mr Bean and Charlie Chaplin on another. This attempt was entered in the Guinness Book of World Records as the ‘Largest Dual Sided Rubik’s Cube Mosaic’. Prithveesh also had written a book titled ‘Rubik Magic’, comprising formulas for children to solve Rubik’s Cube.
