Forest guards are on the vigil to trap a leopard which allegedly strayed into human habitats of Ambur region.

It may be recalled that the animal killed a goat in Kalaignar Nagar, Abigiripettai, on Wednesday. After which a dairy farmer of Ponnapalli said that his goat was mauled by the leopard two days ago.

Forest officers have intensified their patrolling on the fringes of reserved forests areas.

A forest official from Ambur said they were keeping close vigil on the probable places of leopard’s movements. But the animal has been hiding in the deep forest area and there is a doubt that it would surface again, the official added.

“We have taken all necessary action for trapping the animal,” an officer said.

Traps were being readied to be planted in areas and camera footages were being monitored to fix its locations, he added.
