Ludhiana: Launching an attack over MP candidate Ravneet Singh Bittu over Sam Pitroda’s controversial remarks on anti-Sikh riots, SAD-BJP alliance candidate from Ludhiana, Maheshinder Singh Grewal, on Saturday said while Pritoda had revealed the Congress bias against the Sikhs, Bittu has shown his true colours staying quiet. He said: “Bittu has exposed himself and shown as to what extent he can go to safeguard his personal interests even if it means anti-Sikh stand of his party and leaders.”
“The Congress leaders have always accused us of raising the issue of anti-Sikh riots during elections, but who raised it this time?” he questioned. Pitroda’s comments in response to a question over 1984 riots, “Jo hua, so hua” (whatever happened, has happened) have been causing embarassment to the Congress and the party has already distanced itself form the issue claiming these were his personal remarks.
Addressing several campaign meetings on Saturday, Grewal alleged that Pritoda’s statement was not surprising. “Pritoda did not say anything new, he simply stated the Congress policy and attitude towards Sikhs,” he remarked, while pointing out that Pritoda was acting as a mentor to Rahul Gandhi.
“Given Pritoda’s relationship with Gandhi, Bittu was afraid to condemn his anti-Sikh statement lest it may annoy his boss,” he alleged. He added, “That is what I want people to know that for safeguarding their personal interests, some of the Congress leaders like Ravneet Bittu can overlook the injustice with the community”.
The Akali-BJP candidate also claimed that the entire Congress party right from Rahul Gandhi downwards was trying to defend and save Pritoda. “If Congress party and its leaders really felt that Pritoda was wrong, why have they not sacked him?” he asked, claiming that there was no regret or remorse in the Congress party about the statement Pritoda made about anti-Sikh riots.
When asked to respond, Bittu retorted by claiming that Grewal should reply as to why Prime Minister Narendra Modi was talking about the riots in Punjab. “Why should I react on Pitroda’s statement? Who is he(Grewal) to comment on riots and moreover it’s not the right time to raise 1984 riots issue,” he said.
He also added that while the Congress was trying to apply balm on the wounds, the SAD-BJP leaders were trying to open those wounds again. “SAD leaders should also tell when they are going to apologize at Guru Granth Sahib for Behbal Kalan incident? he said.
