He also held the position of executive vice president and was responsible for commercial operations, products, the frequent flyer program and cargo division.

However, the spokeswoman did not commented on why Antinori had resigned and from when it was going to be effective.

On April 24 in Dubai Antinori spoke to media in his capacity as an Emirates executive and on April 29 he was seen at the Emirates stand at a travel exhibition in Dubai.

The acting COO will be Adnan Kazim, divisional senior vice president, strategic planning, revenue optimization & aeropolitical affairs.

Since last week Emirates reported a 69 percent fall in full-year profit. This was its lowest in 10 years due to soaring fuel costs and a strong dollar took a toll on earnings and the passenger growth stalled.

In October 2011 Antinori joined Emirates as executive vice president for passenger sales worldwide. In June 2013 he was promoted to CCO.

In 2016 Antorini was contacted to become the Air France-KLM chief executive but he preferred to work with the Dubai-based carrier.
