212 kg ganja seized

Several packets of ganja weighing a total of 212 kg, which were being smuggled in a car, were seized by Tiruchi Rural Police near Samayapuram on the city’s outskirts in the early hours on Sunday.

Two occupants of the car, B. Ghouse, 24, and S. Durga Rao, 20, both from Andhra Pradesh, were handed over to the State Narcotic Intelligence Bureau CID, along with the seized contraband and vehicle, said police sources.

Around 2.30 a.m., a car bearing a fake TN registration number plate was coming from Guntur in Andhra Pradesh when a police team stopped the vehicle at Pallividai near Samayapuram on suspicion.

The team found 106 packets of ganja inside the car and the two occupants were brought to Samayapuram police station for questioning. They were later handed over to NIB-CID, the sources said.
